.50 BMG aka .50 Browning Machine Gun is a caliber invented for the M2 machine gun that is now also used in high powered sniper rifles. Its metric dimensions (and designation) are 12.7x99mm NATO.
A wide variety of ammunition is available including ball, tracer, armor piercing, incendiary and saboted sub-caliber rounds.
