In Egyptian mythology, Ament was an underworld goddess who lived in a tree at the edge of a desert, where she welcomed newly-deceased souls into the underworld.
The name was also used to refer to the underworld itself.

An ament is also a slim, cylindrical flower cluster that can be found on the birch, willow, oak and poplar. It contains unisexual flowers, often one plant has only male aments, while another has male, but it is also possible for a plant contain both male and female aments.
