Andrew Vachss (born October 19, 1942) is an American crime fiction novelist and writer, child protection consultant, and attorney exclusively representing children and youths.
According to the biography details in Flood, before specialising in the problems of abused children, Vachss had worked as a probation officer, fruit picker, furniture removal man, cab driver, credit collection agent, gambler, advertising copywriter and photographer.
His novels usually cover issues relating to child abuse, and the core character in many of them is 'Burke', a tough, somewhat sinister, outlaw private detective.
