Baron Grey of Codnor
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.

The title Baron Grey of Codnor is an old one in the Peerage of England. It was created by writ when Sir Henry Grey was summoned to Parliament in 1299. In 1496, the title became abeyant at the death of another baron named Henry Grey. It stayed abeyant for about 493 years, until it was terminated by the Sovereign in favour of Charles Corwnall-Legh in 1989. At the time of termination, the barony was assigned a precedence of 1397, rather than 1299, and it was held that Richard Grey was the first Baron to hold the title, despite his ancestors having been summoned to Parliament in right of the peerage earlier.
