From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.

beautifulgarbage is a CD by the band Garbage, released on October 2, 2001. The album presents Garbage's most polished, sedate, and produced sound as well as singer-songwriter Shirley Manson's most mature and self-reflective lyrics to date.

The album got off to an inauspicious start. It was released well over three years after Garbage's last effort, Version 2.0. Additionally, the lead single from the album, "Androgyny" failed to crack the top 20 in the United Kingdom and had no impact whatsoever in the United States. Additionally, fans reacted extremely negativly to the release, claiming that Garbage had strayed from their rock roots into europop.

Despite this, the album received excellent reviews from Rolling Stone and other music magazines, and Garbage was well established as a band and had a significant fan following. As such, the album debuted at #6 in the UK and #13 in the US.

Garbage's fans were initailly puzzled by the eclectic variety of music offered by the album. The opening song, "Shut Your Mouth", was an example of the classic sound Garbage had been famous for in the 90s and would go on to be the album's highest-charting single. Yet the album included other, new styles as well. There were R&B offerings, long, somber ballads, 60s pop, and new alternative pieces with particularly strong attacks.

Garbage even managed to squeeze a moderately successful single out of the album, "Cherry Lips", an electronic-pop song which spent 3 weeks in the UK top 40. Garbage also embarked on an extensive tour of Europe supporting U2 and later played shows throughout the United States along with No Doubt
