Benefit performance
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.

A Benefit performance is ususally one which earns the performers (and, likely, the crew, director, holder of copyright, etc.) no money.

Instead, the takings will go to raise money for (to "benefit") some mutually agreed cause: eg. the Actors Benevolent Fund; a hospital; maybe to help the writer or a performer himself out of financial difficulties.
