BMW 1-Series
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.

The BMW 1-Series is a model of automobile that will be manufactured by BMW and sold in the United Kingdom (The latest 1-Series artists impressions, 2003); in what other parts of the world the 1-Series will be offered is unknown.

BMW's internal code name for this model is “E81” (The latest 1-Series artists impressions, 2003).

The hatchback variant

In the Northern Hemisphere autumn of 2004, BMW will offer a hatchback variant of the 1-Series, designed to compete in the market with the Volkswagen Golf (The latest 1-Series artists impressions, 2003).

The hatchback will feature a 4-cylinder engine built in the Hams Hall plant in Birmingham, England. Some of the car's components will be shared with the 3-Series, including MacPherson struts in the front of the car, and a trapezoidal-link rear axle (The latest 1-Series artists impressions, 2003).

The headlights and taillights are expected to be of a “wraparound” design, i.e., they will be partially visible from the sides of the car, as well as the front and rear of the car (The latest 1-Series artists impressions, 2003).
