Caipirinha
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.

A Caipirinha is a Brazilian cocktail made from Cachaça, limes, sugar, and ice. For one glass of Caipirinha, a lime is cut into pieces but not peeled. After adding 1-2 teaspoons of white sugar, the lime pieces are squashed slightly to release the juice without squeezing the bitter skin of the lime. In Brazil, special pestles can be found for this task. Finally, one adds 20-50ml of white Cachaça, stirs, and adds crushed ice. The drink is served in low wide glasses with short drinking straws.

Since it is now very popular all over the world, several variants of this cocktail are known. In some regions, brown sugar is used instead of white. Furthermore, Cachaça is sometimes replaced by vodka (Caipiroshka) or white rum (Caipiríssima).
