Camp Concentration, by Thomas M. Disch (1968)

Perhaps Disch's best-known novel, this book is set in a totalitarian future, projected from the mid-1960s, in which the United States is imprisoning dissenters. Poet Louis Sachetti is sent to a secret military installation called Camp Archimedes, at which the prisoners are injected with a form of syphilis intended to make them geniuses for a short while and then kill them.
