Caps is a term used to describe the number of international football appearances a player has had.
The term can be applied to any nationality of player, but is usually only used in the United Kingdom.
The current recordholder for caps is American midfielder Kristine Lilly, with 263 caps as of 1 January 2004. Three of her teammates--Mia Hamm, Julie Foudy, and Joy Fawcett--have over 200 caps. Mexico's Claudio Suárez is the leader among men, with 171 caps as of the same date.
