The Cauvery (anglicization of Kaveri) is a river in South India. It originates in the Western Ghats mountain range in Kodagu district of Karnataka and drains into the Bay of Bengal in Cuddalore district of Tamil Nadu. The river is crucial for irrigation in both states.
The river is at the center of a century-old political dispute between Karnataka and Tamil Nadu over whether or not the former is releasing its fair share of water to the latter.
