Chalumeau
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.

The Chalumeau was a 17th-century musical instrument that evolved into the modern clarinet. Consisting of essentially a recorder with a single reed added, it had only three finger holes. As the instrument developed through the 18th century, the terms chalumeau and clarinet were used interchangeably, with the usage dying out by the 19th.
