The Communist Party of Scotland (CPS) was established in 1991 when the Communist Party of Great Britain (CPGB) was forcibly disbanded by its revisionist leadership clique. Those who formed the CPS disagreed with this decision (as did the majority of CPGB members who left to form the Communist Party of Britain, of which the CPS is a constituent region).
Thus far the CPS has fought no parliamentary elections. Consequently the CPS do not feature much on the Scottish political landscape, but they do continue to sponsor a councillor in Fife.
The CPS recently released its pamphlet entitled "Breaking the British State", which outlines its position on Scottish independence.
