Compromise of 1877

In the United States, the Compromise of 1877 was a compromise made necessary by the Committee of 15 and the Election of 1876. The compromise stipulated that the South would acknowledge Rutherford B. Hayes as President if the North agreed to pull troops out of the South. This compromise effectivly ended Reconstruction in the South.
