Copán is a department in the west of the nation of Honduras. The department capital is the town of Santa Rosa de Copan Also in the department are the famous the Pre-Columbian of Copan, one of the greatest cities of the Maya civilization.
In 2001 Copán department had an estimated population of about 289,000 people.
