Dar Williams was born in Mount Kisco, New York, on April 19, 1967. Her full name is Dorothy Snowden Williams.
Cautious to classify her music to a particular genre, Williams is best described as "Folk-pop". She frequents folk festivals across the nation, but also has toured with the likes of Mary Chapin Carpenter, Patty Griffen, and Shawn Colvin.
She co-wrote the book Tofu Tollbooth, and her book Amelee will be released in 2004.
She currently resides in Rhineback, NY, and was married on the weekend of May 4, 2002.
