Death and the Maiden is
- an old motif in literature and art [1];
- a song by Franz Schubert
- a string quartet in D minor by Franz Schubert, composed c.1824-1826, which drew on his earlier song for thematic material; and
- a play by Ariel Dorfman, in which Schubert's string quartet features prominently. Later adapted as a 1994 film by Roman Polanski, starring Ben Kingsley and Sigourney Weaver See Death and the Maiden (1994 movie).
