The Democratic Alliance (DA) is a South African political party. It was formed in 2000 as a merger of the Democratic Party (DP) and New National Party (NNP). This merger lasted until 2001. Even though the NNP left the alliance, the DA chose to retain its new name. The current Democratic Alliance is a merger of the Democratic Party and the Federal Alliance.
The leader of the Democratic Alliance is Tony Leon.
