Duke of Brittany

During Brittany's period of independence from France it was ruled by a series of dukes. These rulers were never free from outside influence, however, with England and France competing for their favours and attentions.

• 1213-1237 Pierre I of Brittany (in right of his wife)
• 1237-1286 Jean I of Brittany (the Red)
• 1286-1305 Jean II of Brittany
• 1305-1312 Arthur II of Brittany
• 1312-1341 Jean III of Brittany

Breton War of Succession

• Until 29 September 1364 and the death of Charles de Blois, at the Battle of Auray

House of Montfort

• 1364-1399 Jean IV of Brittany
• 1399-1442 Jean V of Brittany
• 1442-1450 François I of Brittany
• 1450-1457 Pierre II of Brittany
• 1457-1458 Arthur III of Brittany
• 1458-1488 François II of Brittany
• 1488-1514 Anne of Brittany

After 1514 Brittany was annexed to France
