Dupont Circle is a traffic circle surrounding a park containing a fountain memorializing Admiral Samuel Francis DuPont, in the city of Washington, D.C. It is located at the intersections of Connecticut Ave. NW, New Hampshire ave., NW, and P St. NW.
Traditionally a gay area and slightly bohemian, the Dupont Circle area has gentrified since the mid-1970s, and has become a trendy location with a mix of coffee houses, gay bars and upscale retail stores. Notable stores include a 24 hour bookstore and restaurant, KramerBooks & Afterwards, and D.C.'s first gay book store, Lambda Rising.
