The title Earl of Dundonald was created in 1669 in the Peerage of Scotland for the soldier Sir William Cochrane. Other titles held by the Earl of Dundonald are: Lord Cochrane of Dundonald (created 1647) and Lord Cochrane of Paisley and Ochiltree (1669). Both subsidiary titles are in the Peerage of Scotland.
