The Edgar Awards, named after Edgar Allan Poe, are presented every year by the Mystery Writers of America. They honor the best in mystery fiction, non-fiction, television, film and theatre published or produced in the past year. Categories in 2003 included:

- Best paperback original
- Best critical / biographical
- Best fact crime
- Best short story
- Best young adult
- Best juvenile
- Best television episode teleplay
- Best motion picture screenplay
- Best play
