Electrostatic is a term describing a force exerted due to a static (i.e. unchanging) electric field. The fundamental equation of electrostatics is Coulomb's law, which gives the force between two point charges.

Another significant concept in electrostatics is the electric potential, commonly known as voltage. Poisson's equation gives the relationship between charge distribution and potential:
