Expressed sequence tag

An espressed sequence tag or EST is a short sub-sequence of a protein-coding DNA sequence whose expression can be measured by using microarray technology. The short sequence provides a speedup on genome sequencing project, as the whole protein need not be sequenced, just some unique sub-sequence of it.
