In the fiction of J. R. R. Tolkien, Finduilas was the sister of Prince Imrahil of Dol Amroth.
Named after Finduilas, an Elf-maiden of the First Age, Finduilas of Dol Amroth was the daughter of Prince Adrahil II, and had a brother Imrahil. She was born in 2950 of the Third Age.
In 2971 of the Third Age she was wed to the much older Denethor, son of Echtelion II the Steward of Gondor. Aged only 21 and in love with the sea, she dwindled away in the city of Minas Tirith. Denethor was a stern man who did not show any love to his wife, and she spent most of her time in the gardens of the Houses of Healing.
In 2978 she gave birth to a son Boromir, who became loved by his father. In 2983 she gave birth to her second son, Faramir, and after grew weak, probably missing the sea and the more southern climate. Faramir was ignored by his father, and she did her best to raise him on her own.
In 2984 Echtelion suddenly died, and Denethor II became Steward of Gondor. After this he had even less time for his wife and youngest son, and only had eyes for Boromir. Finduilas became ill, and died in 2987, aged only 37 (a very young age for a Dúnadan.
Denethor might have blamed Faramir for his mother's death since she weakened after his birth, which could have been one of the reasons he seemingly hated his son. Without Finduilas' support Denethor grew even more grim and reclusive, and it was not long after her death that he first began using the palantír of Minas Tirith in secret.
