The national flag of Cameroon in this form was adopted on May 20, 1975 after Cameroon was made a unitary state. The previous flag of Cameroon had a similar color scheme, but had two stars. The color scheme are traditional Pan-African colors, and the striping is adopted from the Flag of France. The center stripe stands for unity, as red stands for unity, and the star is the "star of unity". The yellow is for the sun, and also the savannas in the northern part of the country, while the green is for the forests in the southern part of Cameroon.
