Parva sub ingenti

Three small (parva) oak trees representing the three counties of the province (Prince, Queens and Kings) are shown under the protection of a great (ingenti) oak tree which represents Great Britain.
Prince Edward Island was a colony of Great Britain until 1873 when it joined Canada.
