Fort Benning is a base facility of the United States military outside Columbus, Georgia. The base has a large basic training facility for infantry, and is home to the Infantry Training Brigade of the United States Army as well being the Army's foremost airborne (parachuting) training center.
The base is also the location of the Western Hemisphere Institute for Security Cooperation (WHISC), formerly known as School of the Americas. Some graduates of the school, mostly officers from Latin American countries, have been accused of committing human rights abuses including torture. Fort Benning also has a sniper training school.
