Gilbert de Clare, 3rd Earl of Gloucester (dired 7 December, 1295, was a powerful Norman noble. Also known as 'Red' Glibert de Clare, he built Caerphilly Castle for the reasons outlined in that article. He was married to Joan of Acre. He was Lord of Glamorgan from 1263 his death.
