The name hatchetfish may refer to two unrelated groups of fish:
- Marine hatchetfish, small deep-sea bioluminescent fish (Stomiiformes) of the family Sternoptychidae, subfamily Sternoptychinae.
- Freshwater hatchetfish, tropical characinss of the large family Gasteropelecidae.
