The municipality and town Horten in the county of Vestfold, Norway, had 24,302 inhabitants on January 1, 2002.
The municipality was previously called Borre, but after a referendum in 2001, changed to Horten in June 1 2001.
Located in Horten are Marinemuseet (The Naval Museum), the oldest existing museum of its kind in the world (founded in 1853), and the Norwegian Museum of Photography - Preus Fotomuseum - a unique museum located in the same building as the naval museum.
