  • 1997 hurricane season?

The main reason why no names were retired during the 1997 hurricane season was that we were in a record-setting
El Niņo pattern. El Niņo tends to cool Atlantic waters, thereby choking off hurricane development. There was only 1 hurricane, and 4 named storms in 1997, making it the slowest season since 1933.
