An inning in baseball consists of 3 outs. There are normally 9 innings in a baseball game but if the score is tied after 9 innings, the game goes into extra innings until one team scores more runs than the other.
A similar concept exists in cricket, but in that context both the singular and plural of the word are the same, innings.
