Interstate 97

Interstate 97 is an intrastate Interstate highway located entirely within Anne Arundel County, Maryland, United States. It runs from Annapolis, Maryland at the U.S. 50/U.S. 301/secret I-595 multplex to Baltimore, Maryland at I-695 (see Interstate 95).

• At less than 18 miles, this route is the shortest one- or two-digit Interstate highway outside of Hawaii (see Interstate H-2 and H-3). Some have suggested it be combined with Interstate 83 -- or could even be designated I-995, since it is shorter than the average three-digit Interstate route.

• Two spur routes of I-97 were planned but never built. I-197 and I-297 would have been one and two miles long.
