Inverary Castle
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.

Inverary Castle is a Norman-style castle located on the banks of Loch Fyne in Argyllshire, in the Scottish Highlands. It was commisioned in 1744 by Sir Duncan Campbell, Lord of Argyll. It was he that moved the seat of the Cheif of the Clan Campbell from Lochow beside Loch Awe to Inverary Castle. Ever since then, it has been home to the Cheif of the Clan Campbell and the Lords (latter Dukes) of Argyll. Today, the Third Duke of Argyll, MacCailein Mor, lives there with his wife, Iona Culquhoun, Duchess of Argyll, and their two children, Torquhil Ian Campbell, Marquess of Lorne, and Lady Louise Iona Campbell.

In 1877, the castle caught fire and had to be rebuilt in areas.

The castle's focal point, the Armory Hall, has the heighest ceiling in Scotland at 95 feet.
