Iris Chang is a freelance writer and historian, who has written three notable works that document the mistreatment of Asian Americans during times in America's past. Her first book was Thread of the Silkworm, which tells the tale of an Asian professor during the Red Scare in the 1950s. After helping the U.S military for many years, he is suddenly thrown in prison, and shipped to China, where he develops the Silkworm missile that would later endanger the U.S. The second, The Rape of Nanking, shows the disgraceful acts of the Japanese soldiers to the Chinese during World War II, taking from numerous interviews with victims. Finally, The Chinese in America tells the overall history of Asian immigrants. Iris Chang was born in Princeton of New Jersy, but moved to Champaign-Urbana in Illinois, where she grew up. She also earned a bachlor's degree in Journalism at the University of Illinois. After a brief stint at the Chicago Tribune, she began her career as a writer, and also performs lectures and writes articles for various magazines.
