Indonesia is an archipelago made of 18,108 islands (latest satellite images), whereof about 6,000 are inhabited. Major islands of Indonesia:

• Sumatra
• Java
• Borneo (Kalimantan part)
• Sulawesi (formerly known as Celebes)
• New Guinea (western half; eastern half is the independent country of Papua New Guinea)

Other Indonesian islands:

• Madura
• Halmahera
• Amboinia
• Riau islands
• Nusa Tenggara Islands or Lesser Sunda Islands

  • Sumbawa

  • Flores
  • Lombok
