Jayavarman VII was a Khmer Empire king (present day Cambodia) who ruled from 1181 to 1219 AD and ruled during a productive building period at Angkor. He was the son of King Dharanindravarman II (r. 1150 -1160) and queen Sri Jayarajacudamani. He married Jayarajadevi and spent many years in exile, before taking the throne of the Khmer Empire in 1181, at the age of 61.
He would be known as one of the most ambitious builders of temples and structures in Angkor.
