Lei Cheng Uk Han Tomb Museum
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.

The Lei Cheng Uk Han Tomb Museum, in Sham Shui Po, Hong Kong, was created for the brick tomb, accompanied by an exhibition hall located adjecent to it.

The tomb was commonly believed to be built during the Eastern Han Dynasty although the Southern Dynasties was sugguested. The tomb was probably built for a Chinese officer attached to the local garrison.

It was discovered in 1955 when the Hong Kong Government was leveling a hill slope at Lei Cheng Uk Village for the construction of resettlement buildings. The Government decided to preserve the tomb that was then declared a gazetted monument in 1988.

As the only Eastern Han Dynasty brick tomb ever found locally, the Lei Cheng Uk Han Tomb has invaluable historic value. Fifty eight bronze and pottery items were found on the site. Details on the discovery and charateristics of the tomb are on permanent display in the exhibition hall. Small-scale thematic exhibitions on different aspects of the Han culture are staged from time to time.
