The Ligurian language was spoken in north west Italy in pre-Roman times. Very little is known about this language which is believed to have been Indo-European.


Ligurian is also the name given to a romance language currently spoken in Liguria in Italy and Monaco.

It has been revived in Monaco. It is taught in schools and it has been suggested that 17% of the population Monaco speaks it. The ISO 639-2 code for this language is roa.
