林海音 (Lin Haiyin, 1918 - 2001). Chinese writer of Taiwanese nationality, best remembered for her sensitive memoir 城南旧事 (Chennan Jiushi, "My Memories of Old Beijing"), a tribute to her childhood reminiscences of Beijing.

Born in Osaka, Japan, Lin's parents moved to Taiwan before settling in Beijing when she was 5. Spending her next 25 years there, Lin graduated as a journalist for Shijie Ribao ("World News Daily"). In 1948 Lin returned with her husband and family to Taiwan, where she became the editor of several important literary periodicals and newspapers. Lin published some 18 books, including novels, short story collections, radio drama and children's literature, mostly dealing with the feminine experience. In her most famous book 城南旧事 (Chennan Jiushi; film, 1983), Lin records in lively, evocative prose her childhood memories, ending with the death of her father, from the eyes of a precocious, impressionistic young girl.
