Line item veto
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.

A line item veto is a power which allows an executive to veto a portion of a piece of legislation. It is held by many state governors in the United States.

The President of the United States was granted the power of a line item veto in 1996, and this power was used once before being found unconstitutional by the Supreme Court of the United States.
