This page is for notable Judicial Committee of the Privy Council and House of Lords legal cases. The Privy Council cases before 1949 that were appeals from the Supreme Court of Canada or any of the Court of Appeals of the provinces are binding precedent in Canada (even today, unless they have been overruled by the Supreme Court of Canada). The external link below is for all cases beginning in 1996.

Generally significant cases

• Practice Statement (July 26, 1966)
• Donoghue v. Stevenson [1932] A.C. 532 Lord Aitkin's famous statement about duty of care in the tort of negligence.

Canadian Constitutional law cases:

• Silkin v. Beaverbrook Newspapers Ltd, [1958] 1 W.L.R. 743 (Freedom of Speech)

Criminal law cases:

• Haughton v. Smith [1973] 3 All ER 1109, [1974] 3 W.L.R. 1 (House of Lords) Attempted crimes, subsequently overturned by statute.

Copyright cases:

• Walter v. Lane [1900] AC 539 (House of Lords) Fixation by journalist creates copyright by publisher.
