- Madison is the name of a novelty/fad dance.
- Madison is also a very popular female given name in the United States. There is a curious story behind this popularity: According to the Social Security Administration, from a virtually non-existant name before 1980 (it was never one of the 1000 most popular baby girl names), Madison rose to being the second most popular name given to female babies in 2002. This phenomenal rise in popularity can perhaps be traced back to the 1984 movie Splash, where Daryl Hannah played a mermaid that adopted the name 'Madison' after seeing a street sign with that name.
