Manuel Vázquez Montalbán (June 14, 1939 - October 18, 2003) was a Spanish journalist and novelist known for his novels featuring Pepe Carvalho, a Barcelona private investigator. For many years, he contributed columns and articles to the Madrid daily newspaper El País.
He died in Bangkok, Thailand, while returning to his home country from a speaking tour of Australia.
