Michael Shaara (1928-1988) was a writer of science fiction and historical fiction. Shaara began selling science fiction stories to pulp magazines in the 1950s. Shaara taught literature at Florida State University. His novel about the Battle of Gettysburg, The Killer Angels, won the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction in 1975. Shaara died of a heart attack in 1988. Shaara's son, Jeff, is also a popular writer of historical Fiction.
