Myocarditis is inflammation of cardiac muscle tissue. This can be complicated by degeneration of the cardiac tissue.
Myocarditis can be a feature that can appear during or after various illnesses including endocarditis, rheumatic fever, hypertension, or more commonly viral infections such as coxsackie B virus, rubella, or polio.
