Born in Potočari, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Yugoslavia, on March 3rd 1967. Following conscription in the Yugoslav National Army, served as bodyguard to Slobodan Milosevic in 1991-1992. Commander of the Bosnian Muslim forces in the Srebrenica enclave (formally designated 28th Division, redesignated 8th Operational Group in 1995) 1992-1995; accused of having ordered (and led) numerous raids into Serb-populated villages in 1992-1993, particularly in the municipalities of Bratunac, Srebrenica and Skelani.

However in the July 1995, the Srebrenica enclave was overrun by Bosnian Serb forces, who subsequently massacred an estimated 7,000-8,000 Bosnian Muslim POWs. The ICTY indicted Radovan Karadzic and Ratko Mladic in connection with the massacres. (Both remain at lage at time of writing.) Oric, along with rest of the command staff of 8th OG, had been evacuated by helicopter prior to the fall of the enclave.

After the Dayton Peace Accords, he opened a fitness club in Tuzla.

He was indicted by the ICTY on March 28th 2003 on two counts of individual responsibility and four counts of command responsibility for violations of the laws or customs of war, and was arrested without further incident at his club by SFOR on April 10th 2003.
