• 1999: The Sixth Sense by M. Night Shyamalan
• 2000: Galaxy Quest by Robert Gordon and David Howard
• 2001: Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon by James Schamus, Kuo Jung Tsai and Hui-Ling Wang, from the book by Du Lu Wang
• 2002: The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring by Fran Walsh & Philippa Boyens & Peter Jackson; based on The Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien

In 1973 and 1974, a Nebula was awarded in the category of Best Dramatic Presentation. Its winners were:

• 1973: Soylent Green -- Stanley R. Greenberg for Screenplay; Harry Harrison for the source novel, Make Room! Make Room!
• 1974: Sleeper by Woody Allen

In 1975, the category was retitled Best Dramatic Writing.

• 1975: Young Frankenstein by Mel Brooks and Gene Wilder

In 1977, a special award was given for Star Wars.
