New York City Fire Department
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.

The Fire Department City of New York (FDNY) has the responsibility of protecting the New York City's five boroughs from fires and fire hazards, as well as preventing disasters like The Station nightclub fire in nearby Rhode Island, and the trampling deaths at an overcrowded building in Chicago. The FDNY has 11,000 personnel, all of whom must go through tough physical training upon enlistment. They (along with the NYPD) have been celebrated as America's new heroes since the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, when well over 340 of them perished in the catastrophic collapse of the World Trade Center.
